FAQ - Answers to Your Questions

What is IFDW, and how can you help me?

The Institute for Digestive Wellbeing (IFDW) is committed to self-empowerment of people by helping them attain optimal gut health through a holistic approach. The IFDW makes available a variety of services which help improve your gut health and well-being:

  • Gut Health Testing: IFDW provides science-based at-home testing kits that determine the makeup and quantity of one’s gut microbes and identify conditions like IBS through the assessment of gut health.
  • Consultation on Results: Because you're not out of options after testing, IFDW makes it possible for you to get personalized consultations that will help you interpret your results and know their health implications.
  • Virtual Gut Health Clinic: Programs are also expanded to include Gut Health Coaching services conducted by Registered Dietitians (RDs) and Naturopathic Doctors (NDs) who are specialists in gut health to assist you on your wished path to better gut health.

With the help of these services, the IFDW helps you make informed choices to reduce the occurrence of symptoms such as bloating, discomfort, constipation, or diarrhea and thus improves your quality of life due to the healthy lifestyle that is encouraged.

Who should consider taking a gut health test?

Some people who should consider taking a gut health test include those with chronic abdominal discomfort, fatigue, skin concerns, and allergies. For example, if you are prone to bloating, have gassiness, which leads to irregular stools, or weight loss without explanation, then taking a gut health test might be helpful.

It is also suggested for people who have a hereditary predisposition to digestive disease processes or anyone who seeks to achieve the maximal enhancement of health by understanding their gut microbiome.

How long does it take to get my test results?

Once you send out your specimen, kindly note it will take about 3-5 business working days for it to get to the laboratory. In most cases, SIBO Breath Tests results are available between 24 to 72 hours from the time the laboratory received the specimen.

For clients who test their digestive tracts using GI MAP test kits, result is expected from within 7 to 10 working days in most cases, but some can take up to three weeks. The same timeframe applies to Allergy Tests.

As soon as your test results are ready, they will be posted to your client account at https://ifdw.org/pages/login-client-portal.

In order to view your results, you will have to activate your account. An invitation to activate your account was sent to your email as soon as you ordered the test.

If you have not seen the email, please check your inbox and your spam folder.

What should I do if my test results indicate a gut health issue?

Assuming that your test results show a gut health problem like SIBO or Leaky Gut, then you have some choices.

If you ordered a test and wish to consult with an IFDW gut health expert regarding the results, please do so.

On the other hand, you may register for our Virtual Gut Health Clinic, where an IFDW Gut Health Specialist will take you through a comprehensive 8 to 12-week coaching program aimed at achieving relief and enhancing your gut health.

Also, if you have a primary doctor or a gastroenterologist, you can go through your test results with them. They should be able to give you more information and/or treatment for what the test showed.

Is this different from my general practitioner's/doctor's advice?

IFDW's service is meant to enhance the assistance already provided to you by your general physician or an attending physician.

Since doctors usually have several minutes during consultations, they often do not focus on or have expertise in gut issues.

In contrast, IFDW dedicates itself to addressing your specific concerns in detail. We explain our recommendations, provide you with customized plans for each individual, and continue assisting you until you achieve relief.

The goal is not to ignore the traditional physician evaluation of gut health but rather fill in the gap and provide you with more attention and expertise on the issues.

What is the Holistic Approach to Gut Health?

The IFDW holistic approach is an entire body-mind approach to gut health where the individual understands that their gut health is directly connected to their personal well-being.

There is more to this method than merely managing the external manifestations of disease. It includes an examination of food, physical activity, stress, sleep, and psychological states in order to deal with the underlying causes of human gut disorders.

These areas are targeted with the intention of restoring equilibrium within the digestive system and achieving the desired goal of health rather than offer a quick fix. This procedure is quite complex and usually involves appropriate diet regimens, herbal medicine, stress management programs, and other lifestyle changes to enhance gut and overall health.

Why should I trust your advice?

You don’t need to worry, our recommendations are valid as they are made by the qualified professionals who practice as gut health experts within the IFDW team.

Our recommendations are based upon evidence and therefore utilize the latest developments in the area of gut health.

Our approach is personalized and practical, based on your health history, our assumptions about your health state, and, naturally, the goals we need to achieve.

Also, our services are complementary to those provided by the primary care physician so as not to add confusion to the patient’s management.

We are here for you, and it is our privilege to help you get back to health with the help of technologies that work and professionals you can trust.

Where should I start?

Where you start will depend on your symptoms. Let us suppose you have some symptoms like bloating, gas, or abdominal pain.

It may be a good idea to commence with a SIBO Breath Test and find out if Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO) is the cause.

If you have done a SIBO test already and it comes back negative, or your symptoms are of a more global nature, a GI MAP test might be the next best step.

It gives an overview of the gut and aids in understanding possible other reasons for your symptoms.

Our team is ready to assist you in the selection of the most appropriate test for your situation so that you do not go off on the wrong foot when it comes to your health.

What should I do if I have a question or an issue with taking my sample?

In case you come across any issue or have some questions while taking your sample, several instructional videos have been made to assist you through the entire sampling process.

These are available here: https://ifdw.org/pages/test-instructions. These videos came with pictures depicting every step that you are supposed to follow so that one is able to collect their sample without any difficulties.

If after viewing the videos you still have issues, our support team will be ready to help you: service@ifdw.org.

We advise you to take the first appointment with one of our clinicians and let them discuss your case in particular.

We are committed to helping you maintain a healthy gut and do not want you to worry much when seeking our assistance.

How long does it take to see the first signs of feeling better?

As soon as we identified the right individual approach for you, you are most probably going to start feeling better within a few weeks.

We also have people with quick and good outcomes in the first weeks.

Other people may try different protocols several times (months) until we can find a suitable one.
